Carnival and Lent

Of course, I’ve written about early modern carnivals before. And then there was a bit of Rabelais for Christmas…

But it’s that time of year again! Pancakes for dinner! (And the shops selling out of eggs… so possibly not as many pancakes as I’d really like.) And I never, ever get bored of this theme, so:

Man I love Fat Tuesday. If only for Paczkis – er, Polish Shrove (Chicago people call em Paczkis). Yum.

Bananas, honey and a tin of sterilised cream (whipped). Unbeatable!

I am strangely satisfied with old-fashioned sugar and lemon. Honey good for a change. And I’ll see what else I can throw together when it comes to it. But I’m not keen on *very* sweet pancake fillings.

ADH refused to make pancakes. I sulked and had chips, because fried foods always go away at Lent.

You didn’t just make some for yourself? (None for him, obviously.)

I ate far too many anyway. :)

Nope — Things at school are far too rough these days. Got home late and didn’t feel like doing much of anything.

I am, unfortunately, beginning to understand why so many of the smart and fairly successful women academics I know are single.
