Some weekend reading

Who needs a theme anyway?

Whig history (thanks to Ancarett - a post worth reading, too)

A history of flawed teaching

A Romantic natural history

Modern Drunkard Magazine

Confusing words

English idioms

Review of Joe Queenan’s book about England (which I’m including primarily because it contains the priceless line: “it is unfunny in the way that previously only Kathy Lette has been able to be unfunny.” I’m always delighted to encounter other Lette-loathers.)

Britain’s best B&B breakfasts

And Matthew Fort cooks sausages

Thanks for those. I’ll check out the drunkards and the idioms, probably in that order. I wonder if it’ll include any Chris Morris verbal stylings. I did actually here someone use the phrase “as gay as a window” the other day. Is the drunkard site any good, or is it just people wittering about how pissed they were last night? It will have to be good to impress as I’ve obv been reading lots of Hunter S T this week. Not drinking this evening, as we wuz robbed 3-2 boo-hoo! Not a bad effort condidering we only have half a team, more expenditure needed, bloody Russians etc………..

I haven’t had time to look at it properly, but couldn’t resist posting the link. Let me know if it’s any good. It’s unlikely to match Hunter, i’d have thought. Have you seen this: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/archive?columnist=hunter_s._thompson&root=page2

Yeah, thanks, I’ve seen ‘em - mostly US sports but still with the odd bit of quality bile. Click above for the famous Nixon obituary.
